Haunting and sensual fantasy/drama about Brulard, a French engineer (Maurice Ronet), who is sent to a remote Swedish town to oversee construction of a road. Marina Vlady stars as Ina, a beautiful, mysterious young Swedish girl who soon captures Brulard's heart. Ina has all her life been forced by the local townsfolk to live in the deep forest because they believe she's a witch. When Brulard and Ina fall in love, he attempts to introduce her into civilization, but with disastrous results. A strange and affecting fable, and similar to Herzog's equally magical The Mystery Of Kaspar Hauser.
